Job Summary:
Under this temporary appointment, compensation includes salary plus danger pay and post differentials paid at the rate of 35% each. Please see benefits section for specific details. The incumbent(s) of this position(s) is assigned to Washington, DC (NEA-SCA/EX), TDY to U.S. Embassy Kabul, and will be located in one of the country’s provinces. THIS POSITION IS BASED IN AFGHANISTAN. PRT rule of law initiatives include but are not limited to: developing an independent and fully functioning Afghan judiciary; integrating police, justice, and corrections into a coordinated criminal justice system; supporting the development of a framework of laws to support a democratic Afghanistan built on the rule of law; and reinforcing respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. The incumbent serves on and is a key member of a Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) or a District Support Team (DST) platform working actively with the Team Leader and representatives of various US agencies and the military, as well as aid organizations and the Afghan government, to build Afghan capacity and self-reliance. You are being deployed to a challenging physical environment. You may encounter extremely dusty conditions, significant air pollution, high elevations, lack of potable water, food and waterborne diseases, and communicable diseases. You will need to walk distances of a half-mile or more, run and step up to 2 feet while wearing a helmet and body armor that together weigh a minimum of 30 pounds. Medical care will be limited.
